As it is often uneconomical to sell small numbers of shares, the Orr Mackintosh Foundation, a registered charity, administers a charity share donation scheme called “ShareGift”. Shares are transferred to the name of the Foundation and aggregated until such a time that they can be sold. The proceeds are then given to a growing number of UK charities.

ShareGift can also assist with larger, tax-efficient gifts of shares that you may wish to make to charity.

For more information on any aspects of ShareGift, visit its website or alternatively visit the HMRC website.

Equiniti’s Bereavement team is available to provide help and practical support when a shareholder dies.

You can speak to the Bereavement team by contacting Equiniti and selecting the Bereavement team option.

Further information, including a guide on what to do when a shareholder dies and the services that can support you, can be found on our website www.shareview.co.uk/clients/benefactor.

Equiniti keeps a record of your name, address and the number of shares you own.

If your certificates are lost, stolen or destroyed, Equiniti can arrange for the issue of duplicate certificates. Simply contact Equiniti as soon as you can, quoting your Shareholder Reference if possible.

Equiniti will need to arrange for you to complete a Letter of Indemnity covering the Company for any loss arising from a dispute over who owns the shares and you may be charged for this depending on the value of the share certificate. Once this is done, Equiniti will send you a duplicate certificate.

Generally, there is no charge if the value of shares represented by the certificate is £50 or less. More information on this process can be found on Shareview, under the “Report a lost share certificate” section.

If you find your share certificate(s) before the Letter of Indemnity is processed, you will need to advise the Registrar as soon as possible.

A "cooling off" period of 14 days is implemented once a certificate has been reported lost. During this period, if you locate your certificate then the restriction will be removed without charge. If your certificate is located after this period, then a found certificate administration fee may apply.

If you are a sole shareholder based in the UK, you may be entitled to use the Telephone Express Service to report your certificate as found. You will require a UK debit card should any fees be payable, and all calls will be recorded.

All other shareholders should send the Registrar written confirmation at their address.

If a lost certificate is found after a replacement certificate has been issued, you will need to send the old certificate to the Registrar. Please note that any already paid Letter of Indemnity fees will not be refunded.

A profitable company may distribute some of its profits among the company's shareholders as a dividend payment.

If you have lost a historical dividend cheque or found an out-of-date dividend cheque, you should contact Equiniti as soon as possible.

It will arrange for the cheque to be stopped and then send you the outstanding payment(s) direct to your bank account, provided bank details have been supplied.

For further information including any applicable fees, please visit the “Request a reissue” page under Shareholder Services on www.shareview.co.uk or contact Equiniti.

Having dividends paid into your bank account means you can:

  1. ensure receipt of your dividend in the designated bank account;
  2. avoid waiting for the dividend cheque to clear, allowing you to earn interest or draw on the funds immediately;
  3. ensure you receive the dividends even if you have moved house and not informed our Registrar; and
  4. minimise the risk of theft or fraud.

  • you can provide your bank details online via your Shareview Portfolio at www.shareview.co.uk. Follow the link from “My Investments” to view your holdings summary, access the Dividend Election page for your holding and follow the instructions on screen to provide your nominated bank account and change your dividend currency election if required; or
  • if you are a sole holder with 2,500 shares or fewer, you can provide your nominated bank account details over the phone by contacting Equiniti; or
  • downloading and completing a Change of Mandate form.

See “How do I register for a Shareview Portfolio” in these FAQs for more information on registering.
